BSAVA launches new Emergency manual at BSAVA Congress

1 April 2018

The latest edition of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Emergency and Critical Care is set to make its debut at Congress in April. One of the best-selling titles in the BSAVA Manual series, this third edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to reflect the advances in this essential area of veterinary medicine.

Retaining the structure of the previous edition, the introductory chapters cover areas such as triage, catheterization, fluid therapy and the assessment of shock. These chapters are then followed by those discussing system specific emergencies, ranging from fractures and luxations to uterine prolapse, and from corneal ulceration to peritonitis.

The chapters outlining the approach to patients presenting with cardiac and neurological emergencies have been rewritten to include current thinking on the best approach to these patients in an emergency setting, and all chapters have been updated to reflect the developments in point-of-care ultrasonography and colloid fluid therapy. The chapter on teamwork has been expanded to include the importance of communication and leadership skills that must go hand in hand with clinical skills.

Amanda Boag, one of the editors, says “This manual is intended as a quick and easy reference for practitioners who handle emergency and critical cases on a routine or even not-so-routine basis. We hope that the material is accessible and practical, even in a crisis!”

With the launch of the BSAVA library – the online platform housing all BSAVA content – the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Emergency and Critical Care will be the first manual to be offered for sale in both print and digital formats simultaneously. A special offer on the online version is available for all customers who purchase the print manual.
